Artist: The Works, Album: From Out Of Nowhere, Song: Love Is A Dangerous Weapon

"Love is a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands.  Love it's a painful lesson.  Gonna make you understand."  The Works were a Toronto band who released their debut in 1989, entitled, From Out Of Nowhere.  Love Is A Dangerous Weapon was the lead off track and one of a few singles on this album that got some good radio play in Toronto.  The songs were well crafted and made for FM radio.  They were signed to A&M records and recorded the album in Florida.  This might explain why Julio Iglesias is thanked within the credits of the album.  The producer was Tom Allom who is responsible for some classic albums from Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Def Leppard and the Tourists (early Eurythmics) to name a few!  Unfortunately, this was their only release.  The band would resurface as Wall of Silence in the nineties.  Following that, there really isn't much written about the band or it's members.  I would think that like a lot of hard rock bands entering in to the nineties, the times had changed and fewer listeners were embracing the hard rock sound and opting for grunge instead.  This likely had an effect on this band.  Since then, guitarist Jim Huff has done well for himself as a songwriter and producer.  His Myspace page shows him located in Los Angeles and he has amassed a respectable list of writing and producing credits for television and movies since his rock and roll heyday.  The album, From Out Of Nowhere, is not widely available anymore.  At the time of this blog, there were copies on Ebay and Amazon trading for $50.  You can hear the song, Love Is A Dangerous Weapon, on You Tube (  As always, you can hear this song as well as others that I blog about each day on Live 365 (  Thanks for reading and enjoy!
