Artist: Infidels, Album: Infidels, Song: 100 Watt Bulb

"It's like an itch that you scratch, don't tell no lies.  It's like a hundred watt bulb burning in your eye."  The Infidels were a Toronto band that released their self titled debut in 1991 with the label, I.R.S..  The principle members were Molly Johnson and Norman Orenstein.  The duo were in another band during the late eighties by the name of Alta Moda (see blog 6/27/10).  The Infidels had more of a harder rock sound than the previous band.  The album opener, 100 Watt Bulb, was the lead single from the album which got a lot of radio and video play in Canada.  The band toured the country in support of the album as well.  The studio recording included some big names in Canadian music like Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar) and Billy Newton Davis.  Unfortunately, the band lost their momentum during the time it took to release another album.  Their label was also going through some financial troubles and another band in the U.S. began recording under the same name.  Molly never really left the limelight, appearing on a number of other artist's releases like Tom Cochrane and Blue Rodeo.  She would eventually release her first solo album in 2000 and is still recording and releasing music today.  She is also a host on CBC radio 2.  Norman currently owns his own production company in Toronto and composes music for television and film.  The Infidel's self titled debut is a difficult find today.  At the time of this blog, there were copies trading on Amazon and Ebay between $5 and $50.  You can watch the video for the song, 100 Watt Bulb, on You Tube (  Thanks for reading and enjoy!
