The Gruesomes were a garage rock band from Montreal that formed in the mid eighties. The band started out playing local clubs and released a couple of indie EP's before their first full length debut in 1986. They would go on to release two more consecutive albums before 1989 and also produce a couple of videos. The band's popularity through video play and college/university radio support, blossomed and they began touring nationally as well as in the United States. They broke up in 1990 but returned in the year 2000 with this psychedelic gem, Cave In! The band kicked off the album's release with an attendance setting sold out show at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. The show was filmed and broadcasted on CBC. The boys were now in their thirties but the sound and quality of this recording was as good or better than their early teen trash days. An exceptional track on this release is the tune, Hip-no-tyzed. The band got to tour Europe as well in support of this release. U.S. label, Sundazed Music, would also release an anthology of the bands earlier work in 2003. The band is still together and plays the odd show from time to time. They formed their own label, Ricochet Sound, and have re-released their entire discography as well as working with new Canadian acts. You can follow them at http://www.myspace.com/thegruesomes. You can hear the exceptionally groovy tune, Hip-no-tyzed, on You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkD35gOheqw). Thanks for reading and enjoy!
