Artist: Salmonblaster, Album: Salmonblaster, Song: Freeway

"Got a picture in my pocket, looks a lot like you.  And every time that I drop it, looks less and less like you."  Salmonblaster were a band from London, Ontario that formed in the early nineties.  They were Matt Werm, Brady Parr and Mat Davis.  They were signed to the indie label, Liquid Records and released their self-titled debut in 1996.  The single from the album and likely the one that most relate to the band's name was Freeway.  It's a power pop gem that starts out slow but just builds in to an all out guitar driven assault.  Very similar to another Canadian band during the nineties called the Doughboys.  The band would only release one album and garner some regional attention through college radio as well as a video for their song, Freeway, on Much Music.  That's actually where I heard the song for the first time.  The band was able to land some gigs with other Canadian acts like the Ghandarvas, Glueleg and I Mother Earth as a result.  The drummer, Brady Parr, is actually in another band from London, known as Raised By Swans.  The self titled debut by Salmonblaster is not an easy find.  Amazon had 3 copies selling between $4 and $5 at the time of this blog.  You can watch the video for Freeway on You Tube (  As always, you can hear this song as well as others that I blog about each day on Live 365 (  Thanks for reading and enjoy!
