Mark Korven is a musician originally from Western Canada. He was born in Edmonton but raised in Winnipeg. During the late seventies he was studying jazz music by day and playing in rock bands at night. In 1984, he released his debut album, Passengers, on indie label, Rave Records. It was a progressive sounding rock record led by this lead off track, Clock On The Wall. Coincidentally, this track would go on to win a local homegrown radio contest and lead to a brief deal with Stony Plain Records which in turn, led to it's release as a single. Mark would then relocate to Toronto and sign a deal with Duke Street Records. The home of Jane Siberry, FM and Scott Merritt (see blog 3/1/11) to name a few. He would release his sophomore album with them which garnered him a Juno nomination for Most Promising Male Vocalist which he lost to Tim Feehan. However, around this time, he also began composing music for film and television which he has become very successful at. He is both a Gemini and Genie award recipient. You can follow Mark at http://www.markkorven.com/. His debut album is a very difficult find today. At the time of this blog, there were no copies available online. His more recent releases, including his sophomore release with Duke Street, is available on Itunes. You can check out the song, Clock On The Wall, on You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0JYKRiJg70&feature=channel_video_title). Thanks for reading and enjoy!
