Artist: Flatliners, Album: Destroy To Create, Song: Fred's Got Slacks
The Flatliners are a punk band from Toronto that started in 2002. After years of gigging and releasing their songs on punk compilations, they released their debut, Destroy To Create, in 2005. It included this song, Fred's Got Slacks. Even if you aren't a fan of punk, you have to be impressed by the vocals of lead singer, Chris Cresswell. He manages to sing the words of a 5 minute song in just over two minutes. Without a doubt, the fastest lyrical delivery that I've ever heard outside of hip hop. It also has a ska rhythm to it that is reminiscent of the band Rancid's work. I don't know what the hell he's saying but who cares if you can dance to it! The band has released two albums since their debut and have signed on with American label, Fat Wreck Chords. Their most recent release in 2010 is entitled, Cavalcade. The band tours constantly and has played in the US, Europe and Japan. They will be making their way through the US next month, playing a number of shows with Screeching Weasel (including a SXSW showcase in Austin, TX). You can follow the band at http://www.theflatliners.com/. You can purchase the album, Destroy To Create, on Itunes. You can watch the video for the song, Fred's Got Slacks, on You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dleB2PA1U-A). Thanks for reading and enjoy!
