"I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night, but it's all bad and I know that." Gob are a four piece punk band from Langley, British Columbia. They started recording in the early to mid nineties with their first release in 1994 on Landspeed Records. However, in 2001, they hit the international stage with their Sony BMG debut, The World According To Gob. The band had a melodic punk sound for this release, very similar to the sound popularized by Blink 182. The album was produced by a Brit named Neill King at Factory Studios in Vancouver. Neill had moved to California in the nineties and had worked with Green Day but prior that that, his resume included works by Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe and The Smiths. The lead single, I Hear You Calling, is perhaps one of the finest power pop tunes this country has ever produced. The song got some great air and video play upon it's release. It even cracked the US Billboard Charts. A year later, it would be featured in a NHL video game and the album would be certified Gold. The band continued to use the video game medium for more of their songs in coming years and it seemed to work well for them. Lead singer, Tom Thacker, would also moonlight as the guitarist with Sum 41. The band has continued to release material and their most recent album was in 2007 on Aquarius Records. They are said to be currently working on a follow up for release sometime this year. You can follow the band at http://www.myspace.com/gob. You can watch the humorous video for the song, I Hear You Calling, on You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhSeTnFxfN8). The video is almost Thriller like in it's use of zombies. You can purchase the album, The World According To Gob, on Itunes. Thanks for reading and enjoy!
